Just before 1330 hours Engine 28 was dispatched for the house fire on the 3800 block of Endicott Place in Springdale Co 6s area. Squad 6 arrived first and reported a 2 story single family dwelling with fire showing through the roof. Engine 28 arrived shortly after and quickly went to work stretching attack lines inside knocking the fire on the first floor and advancing to the second. After getting the bulk of the fire on the second floor knocked down the men of Engine 28 attempted to return to the first floor to extinguish the fire in the walls opened up by the Truck Co. At this point the stairs gave way and crews were no longer able to access the second floor. Knowing this another fireman from the Engine crew as well as other companies stretched several attack lines 7 overall off of Engine 281 and advanced to the second floor via ground ladders. At this time upon entering the second floor the fireman from 28 was injured when burning roof beams fell on top of him. He was transported to the Medstar Burn Center where his is currently in stable condition with second and third degree burns and awaiting surgery.
