 February 2, 2013

divdivpspan classuserContentFROM RYAN 2-17-13 – Last surgery Monday night Well last one for a while. Surgery at 5pm cant drink or eat all day tomorrow thats torture. br br Thank you to everyone who has mailed in donations or used the new Paypal donation system. br br The new Paypal link can be found on the West Lanham Hills website. Take a moment and send the link around to you fellow friends and family.spanppspan classuserContentFrom Ryan 2-16-13 – span styleline-height 115 font-family quotCalibriquotquotsans-serifquot font-size 11pt mso-ascii-theme-font minor-latin mso-fareast-font-family Calibri mso-fareast-theme-font minor-latin mso-hansi-theme-font minor-latin mso-bidi-font-family Times New Roman mso-bidi-theme-font minor-bidi mso-ansi-language EN-US mso-fareast-language EN-US mso-bidi-language AR-SASo the quick and easy surgery yesterday turned into a more detailed surgery. They removed hardware from my elbow installed a suction device to my arm cleaned it all out again and re-bandaged it. br br Slept ok last night but the pain definitely sucks bad. br … br Still getting tons of support from family and friends. Trying to catch up on FB messages and emails from before Im sorry if I didnt write …backbr br Finally shaved down my beard feels much better. br br Still some peps who havent come or came back again to visit. Ill be reaching out to those of you.nbsp br br Missing Madison is driving me nuts. I cant wait to see her in person. Skype wifi isnt the greatest here. br br Surgery this week might change days keep you posted. br br I think its cool a lot of fire depts have my story on their own websites in addition SVFD Co2 and PHFD Co10 two departments I used to be members at years ago have the stories up. br br Alright everyone. Take care and Be Safespanspanppspan classuserContentFrom Ryan 2-14-13 – Just over 2 weeks ago since the accident. Surgery 4 was yesterday and went well. I have another surgery Tuesday which should complete the skin graphs. I have seen so many people and old friends and I am thankful for all the support everyone has given me. No doctor can tell me the final outcome but I will strive to beat all the odds. Ya never think you know how important and used your right armhand is til you cant use it. br br Today try not to use your right hand for a couple of hours or one hour or just 30 mins. It aint easy. br br Anyways keep the visits coming. Afternoons are best but either come by and say hi.spanpdivdivnbspdivdiv2-13-13 4pm – Ryan is out of surgery and they got done what they were able to do. He is back in his room and phone in hand texting with us. Pain seems to be a lot better than Monday. Back to the waiting game to see what the next steps will be.nbspbr nbspbr 2-13-13 8am – Ryan is headed back in for some minor surgery this morning to remove some skin that did not take and do another skin graft. Ill post an update once he is out and I see how he is feeling today. Ryan has been in a lot of pain after Sundays surgery and the guys have been by his side trying to cheer him up. The time in the hospital and the pain from surgery is paying a toll on Ryan and all your thoughts and prayers are helping as he looks through Facebook and see how much everyone cares. Look for update after surgery and think of some jokes and such to cheer Ryan up. Be ready to post these on the next update this afternoon.nbspbr nbspbr 2-10-13 – About 1130 am Ryan left his tropical beach party room and headed down the hall in his blue party hat. Ryan is OUT of surgery and in recovery and the doctor said it went well and the muscle took very good. Ryan is in a little bit of pain but handling it like a trooper. The next 3 days will be critical for the muscle and tissue to take. If all goes well after the 3 days he could be looking at getting sprung in about 5 days from that point. He should be back in his room tonight at some point and able to rest tonight.nbspbr nbspbr He has a few extra incision sites now and the heat is still on in force to promote good blood flow. Ryan may be sore tomorrow so keep in mind he will need rest at times and dress in layers so you can unload once in his room.nbspbr nbspdivdiv2-2-13 – I was able to visit Ryan today and glad to see how well he is doing. Between Maytown Fire Dept from Pa Engine 21 right in Baltimore City and Guys from 33 that were on the call Ryan was kept very busy and he is very happy to see everyone. As of today Ryan is looking to have skin grafts done on Tuesday to cover the surgery site and if all goes well he could be discharged by the very next weekend. With this type of procedure it is best to rest and simply wait. Ryan still has a long recovery road but it is very possible to have him back on fire trucks in less than two years.nbspdivdivbr nbspdivdivRyan told me to thank everyone for all the thoughts and prayers and said to keep them coming. He should have access to Facebook again once he is home and will look forward to chatting with everyone.nbspdivdivbr nbspdivdivRyan is able to have limited visitors at this point but should talk to one of us before showing up to make sure he is awake and up for it. nbspWe are trying to rotate as many people in as possible but there are limits and he still must get lots of rest. There should be family members and West Lanham Hills members at the hospital at all times and you can feel free to keep them company also.nbspdivdivbr nbspdivdivThanks again for everyones thoughts and prayers through this whole thing. Jeffrey S. Miller Sr. Deputy Chief 48A WLHVFDnbspdivdivpnbspp

Forty years ago, today, April 16, 1980, West Lanham Hills Volunteer Fire Department lost one of its own. Active Life Member Thomas L. Graves, “Tommy,” was taken from us on Box 18-2, at 9923 Good Luck Road. Tommy was working at Glendale Station 18 as the Tower Driver when he responded on the call. While battling the fire at the garden apartment, an explosion occurred causing part of the building to collapse burying Tommy under the front brick wall. Thomas Graves paid the ultimate sacrifice by giving his life in service to his fellow man. He was the first career Firefighter of Prince George’s County Fire Department to be killed in the line of duty. Tommy laid in state at Station 28 before being laid to rest. God Bless Tommy and his family. ... See MoreSee Less

Very sad day. A couple weeks before that I measured him for a Class A uniform . He told me now they have something to bury me in.

Tommy and Tucker Clark ran me around as a rookie and taught me what it was to be a firefighter. I used to go to the Village Pub to have a few beers with Tommy after work.

My granddad was chief of glendale at the time and he would get upset every time is was mentioned. Rip

Karen, I am so sorry for your loss. A lovely tribute...

Great guy remember that horrible day 😪👨‍🚒

Love and miss him always

Good Man, thanks for posting. Let's not forget him!!!

Rest in Peace Brother.

I was on Truck 39 that day 🙁

Rest Easy Brother!!🇺🇸🇺🇸

That day changed my Dad for the rest of his life

Love you Tommy Honey!!

RIP Sir🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸

Awesome guy!!
