Engine Company Runs Fire Task Force with Mayday

 May 23, 2017

May 19, 2017

1:55AM: Engine Co.28 was alerted for the fire task force in the 6700 blk of Baltimore Avenue in Riverdale, Maryland. First due companies arrived to find a 2 story home with fire showing from the basement, first floor, and second floor and also had fire through the roof. Command requested a Fire Task force sending Engine 281 to the scene with 4 men. While enroute a mayday was declared for a roof collapse with possible firefighters trapped. One firefighter was quickly removed from the debris and is OK. Engine 281 arrived and was ordered in to the scene by command. Engine Co.28 utilized two hand lines already on the ground and stretched to side Charlie to assist in extinguishing the remainder of the fire. Engine 281 officer was the side Charlie supervisor. Engine 281 remained on scene with initial companies for roughly two hours before returning to service.

Remembering our fallen brother Tommy Graves today.

On April 16th, 1980 (38 years ago) Tommy ran a box alarm on Goodluck Rd when an explosion occurred on arrival that leveled the front wall of the garden apartment building which also took the life of life member Tommy Graves.

Tommy laid in state at Station 28 before being laid to rest.

God bless Tommy and his family.

My Uncle Tommy, may he RIP....πŸ’•

A day I will never forget.

πŸ˜‡πŸ™

Tommy was a great firefighter at Co.28 . I remember him sharing his knowledge, and yet had a cheerful and carefree nature around the department. It was a sad day when Truck 28 rolled up on the scene, only to witness the three story gas explosion while Tommy was ventilating the windows on side 1. Rest In Peace Brother, you will never be forgotten.

Seems like yesterday and years ago all at the same time! Continue to rest in eternal peace Tommy!

RIP Tommy. Thank You for some great memories. I just wish your son got to know you! πŸ˜”πŸŒΉ

Darlene Flora Clark

He was a wonderful husband and father, he will be missed always

Rest In Peace Tommy. Keep a watchful eye on your brothers and sisters still doing the job.

I remember that day well. My Dad was off that day, as soon as he heard it on the fire radio at home, he knew immediately it was Tommy. RIP.

RIP Tommy

I had measured him for a class A uniform one week before he died. He made a comment to me now they have something to bury me in.

Rest In Peace

Tommy was a great Guy and always had a smile on his face.

R.I.P. MY BROTHER

Miss him always
