At 9:49 PM Company 28 was alerted for the house fire in the area of Oliver St and 48th Ave in Riverdale, MD. Within seconds of dispatch Engine 281 hit the street with 5 personnel. The initial engine company went on scene with heavy fire showing from all 3 floors of a single family dwelling. The assignment was upgraded to a working fire sending Ladder Co.28 with 4 men to the scene. Company 28 arrived within minutes. Engine 281 took position on side alpha while the truck crew took side Charlie. Both crews encountered heavy fire condition. With deteriorating conditions crews were forced to evacuate the building and master streams were set up. Company 28 and the chiefs were held for roughly 4 hours before returning to service. C28A assisted at the command post while Chief 28 was the fire attack supervisor. Engine 281 OIC was the RIT group supervisor.
